This week Sister Liu shared the following... You're starting to look rounder... <HELLO EVERYONE>
Wellll this week was pretty great! We did lots of finding this week, Yi Jun is thinking about a baptismal goal! She has been worried about her husband not being ok with it, but this week they are talking it out, sooo fingers crossed! I went on exchanges! Again.. haha This time I went to Xiaogang with Sister Turner. IT was a BLAST. We spent a lot of the day just going from one 7-11 to another 7-11 talking to the people inside (It was so hot that there was NO ONE out on the streets haha) We found a couple of girls that are willing to meet, and even taught one of the girls the first lesson right then and there :) Nothing too out of the ordinary happened- So I'll just share something I learned in personal study this week :) I read a talk in this month's Liahonna titled "Heavenly Father's Fixed Standards" https://www.lds.org/liahona/2015/08/heavenly-fathers-fixed-standards?cid=HP_FR_8-21-2015_dPTH_fLHNA_xLIDyL2-1_&lang=eng It puts a really good perspective of how we can't change Heavenly Father's standards, no matter how much we want to or justify it. Y'all should definitely read it :) Line of the Week: A Member in the ward: Sister Liu, are you sure you should be eating all of that? Me: What? It's not even that much! Member: Maybe you should just have one cookie instead of two... Me: What are you saying... Member: I'm just saying, your waist is starting to look... rounder... Me:...... Gotta love the bluntness of the Taiwanese. Love Always, Michelle This week sister LIu shared the following... Real Meat // Zone Conference // AC Leaks <HELLO EVERYONE> Good news: I just got back from Outback Steakhouse and had the opportunity of eating real, good, steak again. Bad news: Don't have that much time to email today... Spent a little too long enjoying good meat... But I''ll put in some highlights of the week: - A miracle that happened this week is that we met with a girl I first contacted when I got to Shi Zhong. We haven't been able to meet with her because her schedule was so uncertain, but the plans finally made it through yesterday. We had a great first lesson with her, and when we asked her to be baptized once she knew these things were true, she said yes! She hasn't set a date yet- but it was a miracle in and of itself that we were finally able to meet! - We had zone conference this week and focused it on this talk called "The Meaning of Repentance" Don't have enough time to talk about all the good things in there, but here is the link- https://speeches.byu.edu/talks/theodore-m-burton_meaning-repentance/ I really invite you all to read it- you may think you know all about repentance- but then you read it and realize that threre is still so much to be learned- even from basic gospel principles! - We spent a lot of time with the Huang Family this week :) There is a mom, dad, and three daughters. The two oldest daughters (Cora and Crystal) are baptized, they have become some of my greatest friends. The mom and the youngest daughter are investigating :) The family has a lot of potential- and I know Heavenly Father will keep on blessing them as they continue to progress in the gospel :) Line of the week: *on the phone with the operations manager* Ops Man: Hello this is Elder ___, is this Sister Liu? Me: Yuppp Ops Man: You reported that your AC in your study room was leaking water about a month and a half ago. Me: Yeah... Ops Man: Is that still a problem? Me: No it just magically fixed itself on it's own... Ops Man: Really? That's great! Me: ..... That was a joke.. Ops Man: oh... ok so how are you accommodating it right now? Me: I put towels on the floor. Ops Man: Seriously...? Me: Yeah.. Ops Man: Ok well we will probably get it fixed in another couple months or so, since towels seem to do the trick! .... Great. Well... Leaky AC it is. But hey- at least I got an AC, even though it feels like it's raining/hurricaning every time I start to read the Book of Mormon. Be thankful for your none leaky AC's - Love you all! Always, Sister Michelle Liu This week Sister Liu shared the following.... The Princess Life / Typhoon Life <HELLO EVERYONE>
Gah. So many things happened this week! I'll get to the typhoon in the end- don't worry. First things first: On Monday, a member took us four missionaries out to the Harbor Restaurant at the Grand Hi- Lai Hotel. It was... how do I put this: Beautiful. It sounds so dumb, but I honestly just felt like a princess in a castle. HUGE difference from our normal dinners- which include, sitting on some sort of stool in a small shop, trying to eat with chopsticks, while simultaneously killing all the mosquitoes that are eating you alive. Sometimes I feel like Heavenly Father throws in little gifts here and there to help us keep on going. Highlights of the week: Exchanges happened this week! Sister Johnston, a sister from Xiaogang, came over to the area! We had SO much fun, and even though it was only 24 hours, we learned so much from each other :) We met with a less active, Jin Xiu, and had a breakthrough lesson with her. We really were able to help her understand that the gospel is here to help her- not to be a burden on her. We were able to have a wonderful first lesson with a new investigator we found! Met with a lot of ward members- and got to know our second ward a whole lot better :) Ok- now typhoon time. The typhoon hit Saturday morning. I woke up to really LOUD wind. like REALLY LOUD. I went out onto the balcony and ALL the scooters and bikes were fallen over. We were told not to bike- only walk - and to stay near our house. All our appointments were at the church- so we had to cancel them. Basically we spent the day indoors calling through a bunch of former investigator's numbers. ... The doors on the inside of our apartment were shaking from the wind that was coming through the cracks- The only time we went out was to get food. Because our fridge was empty. And we were hungry. bad idea. I thought I had protected myself with you know a raincoat and umbrella... but no. The umbrella flipped inside out once I stepped outside. Tree bark flew into my face. Glass/branches/other random unidentifiable objects were flying everywhere. Won't ever do that again... It wasn't until we went out on Sunday that I saw all the damage from the typhoon. Basically, every tree had fallen over, an insane amount of windows had been shattered, pots, plants, were all over the street. roofs had been torn apart. The people are ok- but the town itself, not so much. We have a lot of service opportunities ahead of us this week- I am so grateful that all the missionaries were kept safe, and everyone in our wards were all ok. I know Heavenly Father is taking care of us, and that he loves each and every one of us! This gospel is so true, I know it with every part of my heart. Love always, Sister Michelle Liu This week Sister Liu shared the following... <HELLO EVERYONE> Honestly- this week has been tough, but I've learned a lot about patience, compassion, and humility :) Highlights of the week: 1.Went to Qi Jing last P-day and saw one of my friends from Chao Zhou :) 2. Celebrated Owen's Birthday 3. I got a free bag of fruit from a random person on the street 4. I got free ice cream from another random person 5. Went onto Qi Jing to tract, and passed by Zhou Xiao Jie's house, she happened to be home, so we had an impromptu lesson with her, and taught her all about the Plan of Salvation :) 6. Met with all of the ShiZhong and Lingya recent converts :) 7. Had American/ Mexican food at a members house last night. So. good. Some advice: 1. Do not put your bicycle seat too high. 2.Do not wear non stretchy skirts while you ride a bike. 3.Try to be aware of at least 360 degrees of sight when you ride a bike. 4. Avoid colliding with bats, lizards, low flying pigeons, goats, dogs, cats, Taiwanese locals and/or their various vehicles, newspapers, chopsticks (esp. stainless steel ones). They will cause problems for your speed or mobility. Some will lodge in your spokes and you may be sent flying. Yup, lot's of lessons learned this week... Love you all! Always, Sister Michelle Liu |
