April 21. Tuesday. Day 105.
Tuesday was a day of contacting and tracting, which resulted in a lot of bug bites... but it's ok! Because we were able to talk to a lot of people and get their contact information :) ( Maybe because most of them felt bad that we were biking in the pouring rain... but still ) Later at night the ward mission leader, Lin Di Xiong invited us over to his house for dinner. And we ate... KFC. It was great. Sometimes the members think we miss american food so they often buy us Subway, KFC, McDonalds, etc... We organized a plan with the ward mission leader to really encourage members to get involved in the work.
April 22. Wednesday. Day 106.
We were invited to lunch by Han Jie Mei! Which is a miracle, because missionaries rarely have meal appointments in Taiwan. I think we are really working on building strong relationships with the members, which is working, especially with getting referrals :) At night we had a party for english class, because it was the end of the move call. I talked to a lot of the moms of the kids we have been teaching. I hope we will be able to meet with some of them to teach a lesson.
April 23. Thursday. Day 107.
Not much for thursday. Another day of contacting and tracting. We ran into this girl named Kara- she was the only one who really spent some time talking to us- everyone else gave us the awkward laugh/look and just said no... But we aren't giving up! Sometimes it just takes a couple more run ins with the missionaries before a person says yes :)
April 24. Friday. Day 108.
Friday was pretty much like thursday, my legs are sore from all the tracting, but we are still going strong. With white-washing, I think the important thing is to not give up and try everything: getting referrals, working with members, less actives, recent converts, tracting, and contacting. They are long days, but it feels good to go home tired, knowing that you just spent the whole day working :)
April 25. Saturday. Day 109.
Saturday was a great day :) We got invited to the Lin's for lunch ( not the ones mentioned earlier, this is another family, I'm pretty sure there are like 7 Lin families in this ward...) Anyways, we were really blessed this week with meal appointments :) They have a son who is 12, loves to draw, especially cartoons, and get this: His name is Steven. what. If any of you know my family that pretty much is exactly my brother. I thought it was pretty funny :)
At night, Elder Nipper and Elder Colvin asked us to go with them to teach a lesson to Li Di Xiong. He is their recent convert, and they have started teaching his daughter, Kelly. They brought us along because I guess it's a little hard for them to connect with a 9 year old girl, and also they wanted us to try to get the mom out to talk and meet with them in the future, because every time they go, she apparently just says hi and leaves. So when we got there, Sister Defranchi and I got the mom to sit down for at least 5 minutes just so we could introduce ourselves and get to know the family better. Guess what? She ended up staying for the whole lesson! We shared about how the gospel blesses families and a little about the plan of salvation. We also sang Families can be Together Forever at the end. I think she really enjoyed it. Best part? She told us to come over again! It was a great feeling to help the elders.
April 26. Sunday. Day 110.
In sacrament meeting, all the missionaries gave talks. We are all trying to show the members how easy missionary work can be. We all shared experiences of sharing the gospel and how it has blessed others. At night we had this ward dinner to welcome back a missionary from the ward who served in the Washington Seattle mission. It was really interesting to talk to a missionary who literally just got off his mission. We were also able to get a less active to come to the activity with us! She really enjoyed it and said she will come to church this week :)
Sunday night was also the last day of the move call. I've been in taiwan for one move call already! Can you believe it?? Anyways, three of the elders were transferred up north, so we are loosing half of our district :( We are getting a new elder today, but our district is shrinking :( So we had to say goodbye last night, I think I have said more goodbyes on my mission than in my entire life.. But we are all doing the Lord's work, and that's the best part :)
I love you all so much!
Love always, Sister Michelle Liu
